About Eyedentity
From the clinic
to the routine eye exam.
We focus on early detection and decision support, helping eye care professionals identify risk earlier and act with greater confidence. Our work combines medical expertise, long-term clinical data, and modern machine learning tools.

Our story
It began in the clinic,
years before us.
Research first
The model was developed with the research group at St. Erik Eye Hospital and Karolinska Institutet, trained on years of clinical examinations, and the first studies on it were published before the company existed. Eyedentity was founded in 2025 to take that work further.
Why the optician
Opticians see a large part of the public, and more and more of them photograph the retina as part of the routine exam. That makes the optician an existing route to finding serious eye disease earlier, without building a separate screening system.
What comes next
We continue building the intelligence layer for retinal imaging, helping optometry practices, eye clinics and hospitals turn images into earlier insights and more confident decisions.
Our mission
Turn every eye exam into a life‑saving screening opportunity for everyone, everywhere.
The team
Many disciplines,
one team.
Three founders cover the clinical question, the model and the company, with a clinical expert at St. Erik Eye Hospital and a chairman who has brought medical technology to market before.

Mats Holmström
CEO and founder
Built the model. Formerly machine learning manager at RaySearch Laboratories.

Per Ininbergs
COO and founder
Runs operations, finance and governance.

Gustav Stålhammar
CSO and founder
Professor of ophthalmology at Karolinska Institutet and senior consultant at St. Erik Eye Hospital.

Fredrik Löfman
Chairman of the board
Director of Machine Learning at RaySearch Laboratories.

Shiva Sabazade
Clinical expert
MD, PhD, ophthalmology at St. Erik Eye Hospital.

Investors and partners
Strong investors,
and partners in eye care.
Our investors come from life science and impact investing. Our partners sit on either side of the work: the opticians who take the images and the specialists who know what they show.

Norrsken Launcher led our first investment round, which was oversubscribed and included a group of angel investors.

Karolinska Institutet Innovation invested in the round, and Eyedentity is part of its incubator.
Working with
Synologen
Our first customer, a nationwide network of independent opticians. A live pilot has been running in selected practices since May 2026.
St. Erik Eye Hospital
Sweden's only hospital devoted entirely to eye care and research, and the clinical research partner whose data the model is built on.
